About Us

Jeff is a Registered Piano Technician in the Piano Technicians Guild with almost 30 years of experience tuning & repairing pianos. Shortly after graduating from the Piano Tuning & Related Technologies course at Napa College, he started  tuning for the college and many of the wineries in the valley; as well as for fundraisers supporting the local Opera House. He moved to Oregon in 1988 and started building Oregon Coast Piano Services into the respected business it is now. Jeff has continued his training through the years, primarily through the PTG, but also by completing Yamaha’s Little Red School House Program, for which he was sponsored by an Oregon state Yamaha dealership. At this point in his career, Jeff occasionally serves as an instructor at the monthly Chapter meetings in Portland, generally hosted at Classic Pianos, attended by the Chapter members who live in the area. His specialty is aural tuning; how to tune a piano with only tuning fork as a start, and helps to prepare Associate members of the Chapter for the RPT Tuning exams, which requires that  a technician tune the central portion of the piano without electronic aids of any kind. This skill, aural tuning, is becoming more rare, as the electronic tuning programs grow more and more sophisticated. But Jeff still insists that aural tuning should serve as the basis of any professional tuner’s abilities; “If you don’t know where you are going, how do you know if the machine is programmed correctly?”

Jeff’s Guild activities have included serving two terms as the President of the Portland Chapter of the Guild, several years on the national Bylaws Committee, and several years as the Editor of the Portland Chapter newsletter “The Soundboard”. Several of his articles, on items as diverse as ‘Dealer Relations, Repairing Stripped Screwholes, and a review of a Yamaha-sponsored class offered on the Disklavier player system, reprinted in the internationally distributed Piano Technicians ’Journal’. Most recently; Jeff’s picture of a 1722 Cristofori replica, reflected in the side of a custom built ’Ravenscroft’ grand piano, graced the cover of the September ’Journal”. Currently; Jeff is serving on the Guild’s Institute Committee, whose 5 members are solely responsible for arranging all the classes, instructors, pianos, and classroom set-ups for the international convention. Next year’s convention will be held in Grand Rapids, Michigan. More than 700 technicians from around the world are expected to attend.

Jodi has extensive experience in the retail industry, bookkeeping, and customer relations. She has served as a corporate manager for Southland Corporation, assistant to the Director of the Fine and Performing Arts division of Napa Valley College, and has worked for Jeff’s business for well over 20 years. Hers’ is the voice that the customer’s recognize when they call for tuning appointments. As Jeff tells all their customers with a smile; “It’s the perfect arrangement. I get up in the morning, and she tells me where to go and what to do!”

Between them; Oregon Coast Piano offers you the best pianos, at the best prices, with the professional service you expect when considering a real investment in your musical Life.
